Please Help I have an older 85 hp evinrude!!

I just bought a 71 Kingfisher bass boat that has a 85 hp evinrude on it,does anyone know how to test it to see if it runs.All of the wires coming out of the motor have been cut off about two feet from the motor.I bought it for two hundred bucks but the guy didnt know anything about it either he said his grandpa gave it to him and he knew nothing about boats either.I just need to know what I have to do to test the motor to see if it runs.Can someone please help!

First of all please get the full model number which is on the transom mount. Once the model and year are known, folks should be able to help.

Is it a Starflite 85? There's a good chance that the '71 boat has a '71 engine on it.
