We tested the Evinrude 35 Be Elan -96 engine so that the cooling water in the barrel was up to the cavitation plate. There was a hole, about ten centimeter above the cavitation plate, fronside of the motor. Through the hole I saw the vertical axle. Water came out of there. Is this normal ? I attached a picture of Johnson, which shows the leaking spot. The test/mark water spray was good and strong. The finnish importer, neither a Johnson/Evinrude repairman gould not say surely is this normal ? (The latter uses higher waterlevel, so they could't see this kind of leakage.

It is normal. That is why they put the drain holes there.

Ok, thanks ! Just encouraged and promised to by this motor for 1500 €. I think this was a bargain ! Is this water just what remains over from test/mark water, or is this water cooling perhaps something, like exhaust pipe ?

There is a hole in the water pump housing where the drive shaft passes through. Some water escapes from the pump through that hole. That escaped water is what you see running out the drain holes. If it were not allowed to drain off, it would rise up to the powerhead and possibly cause damage up there.
