Great forum! Hope you guys can help me. I replaced my 65 hp merc with a 1990 90hp that has little useage. It ran perfect for about 8 tanks of gas. Yesterday it just sputtered once when running out of fuel and I switched tanks. When I re-started it, it ran a little rough and when I opened it up it was intermittently missing on one cylinder for the return home. Today I found it to be flooded pretty badly and "pumped" the fuel out of the cylinders and changed the plugs. Now it seems to flood the bottom cylinder (#3?) all the time and won't develop full power and runs rough when idling. Also it does not seem to hold gas in the bulb on the gas line or in the gas filter before the carb. I read something in searching the history that might indicate a leaking diaphram in the fuel pump. Is this where I should start looking? Thanks in advance.

If you don't have gas running out the bottom carb (indicating a leaky float/needle), most likely as you guessed the fuel pump diaphragm is ruptured and raw fuel is being pumped into the crankcase via the fuel pump vacuum line.

If you go here http://www.mercruiserparts.com/selectSerailRange.asp?doc_nbr=90+(3+CYL.) and click on the link that falls within your motor's serial #, it'll lead you to a parts breakdown for your motor.

A fuel pump kit for your motor is under $12 at that site.
