battery dead, now won't start

I left the power on my Four winns horizon and now the starter won't turn the boat over. I tried jumping and when that wouldn't work I bought a new battery. No help. I tried jumping across the solenoid but it just clicks. I pulled the starter and jumped across the solenoid and the starter spun. So, I put the starter back on but it didn't work.

The starter worked fine last week. Does anyone have any idea what I can try next. Is it possible the starter coincedentally failed?

Thanks....JC III

Re: battery dead, now won't start

Thanks for the reply. All connections are clean and tight. All other electrical works fine. I've pulled the starter and when I jump across the solenoid the starter energizes. What about the starter relay? I have no idea how it works or what it does.

What I really don't understand is why having the battery going dead would cause this problem in the first place. Any ideas?

Thanks again...JC III

Re: battery dead, now won't start

you shorted the starter solenoid and it went click
you removed the starter and applied power from another battery? and it worked.
reinstall starter and short starter solenoid
if it goes click ,remove all battery cable connections ,clean and reattach paying attention to the neg. cable ends
