temp alarm sounding

My early 90's 60 hp Evinrude temp alarm goes off when I turn the key on. Last few years it would only happen occasionally or last for only 3-5 seconds. If I jiggled the key, it would sometimes stop but at the end of the year it would keep sounding the steady alarm (motor cold). It runs good. Where is the temp sensor? I think I could get it tested if I can find it.
Thanks.

Re: temp alarm sounding

Temp sensor is located just above and to the left of the top cylinder as you are facing the back of the engine. There is a tan colored lead that is wired to it.If you can turn the key on and get the alarm sounding again, just disconnect the sensor lead and see if it silences the alarm.Otherwise it could be a ghost alarm from a bad oil reservoir sensor or even the alarm module itself. An exact year model or model number can help us narrow down which alarm features your engine came stock with.

it may even be that their is a fuel restriction. check that all your fuel lines are clean and clear of any kinks. my xp 150 will sound a buzzer when it is starved for fuel. just another thing to try out.
