Do you perform a compression test on a warm or cold engine and why?

Re: Compression testing

warm is preferred....i'm not exactly sure why but it prob has to do with metal heat expansion when warm and contraction when cold.

Re: Compression testing

Do not forget that the throttle plates, should be set to fully open position, In order to let the maximum amount of air in to the cylinders.

Doesn't make a whole lot of difference. What you're after is the difference between cylinders, not absolute pressure. Difference should be no more than 10%.
