I,m looking at buying a evinrude 150 that had an accident, where it damaged it skeg and prop causing it to over heat. I,m told it did'nt reach critial over heating therefore should be ok
Does any one have an opion on this, as I know little about engines.
The gear box has being replaced and it seems to be running ok.

What happened to the skeg and prop that would cause it to overheat?

The basic design of the 60 degree V4's and V6's is one of the best, if not the best, OMC ever made. As long as the motor checks out, it should be OK.

Is this the carb'd model or the Ficht model?

As a quick and dirty check, look at the paint on the heads and cylinders. If it is discolored or burned, avoid it like the plague. Unless you are prepared to do major repairs.

Who was it? Harry Truman? Famous quote "All I know is what I read in the newspapers" Anyhow, there's a lot to read about on-line about the pre-2001 Ficht.

If it has all the upgrades it should be OK. Some were even upgraded to a newer powerhead with electronics. Have the dealer give you a print out when he plugs in the laptop.

It will never have a good resale value just because of the reputation, even if it runs perfectly.
