I have a 7.5 merc ser. # 5848372, that died at idle. <br />Since then, there is no spark to either cyl. It went suddenly, so I suspect the primary ignition. I checked the stator and trigger with a VOM and the two coils of the stator were the same. approx 820 ohms each. total is approx 1700. The trigger resistance is 140 ohms. The readings are good according to the manual I have. I also checked the ac output of the stator and trigger using the record max func. of the dvm. The stator output is 52v and the trigger output is 2v. These are using the manual start cord. My question is: are these outputs ok and am I looking at a bad switch box? Any help is appreciated. I am an auto tech. but not too much on outboards.
