1997 Mercury 150Hp XR6
discharges battery slowly.Traced high resistance
short to the (2)Cdi boxes with ohm meter. Disconnected the boxes and read directy into ea
box.Ea showed high res short but at the same value. I guessing they are good. Other symptoms,
boat will not plane untill warm-up (20 min running)then "zoom".Starting is fine when battery is up. Short is from red wires on cdi boxes to chassis grd.

Re: Electrical problem

the two red wires to the switch boxs have nothing to do with the charging system and are the high speed windings for the ign system. THe blue wire are the low speed winding. the alt wires are yellow. It sound to me like the engine is running on 3 cyl cold, probably a switch box if I were to guess, you need to ck th system with a DVA.--Bob

Re: Electrical problem

are you sure your checking the switchboxes and not the regulators? I think by 97 they used 2 regulators . what are the wire colors on the parts you checked
