Runs great on the muffs or in a water tank w/o the prop on. Once in the lake will only generate about 2000 rpm and has no power. REpaired leaking fuel line (after would not start last week. Starts and runs fine otherwise. Decent looking spark. Had to order plugs, so haven't tried those yet. Compression tested last fall and was 115 to 110 all cylinders. VRO has been removed. use 50:1 mix. Ran fine first time out this season.

Friend said, he has similair symptoms on an old Chrysler, He had to clean points every year. Is there anything to this??

thanks in advance for any comments.

No points in tht engine.

More than likely, you have gummed up carburetors.

I do nt believe carbon is the issue.

One or more cylinders are not pulling their weight.

If the spark is good, it carburetion, The only way to de-gum a carburetor is to rebuild it.

Re: Johnson V4 120 No Power in the water

Installed new plugs to no avail. One observation, the plugs seem to be "wet" up the threads and to the gasket. Don't rememberif it was all of them or just part, will have to doule check. Seemed to smoke quite a bit until warmed up. STill NO power when going full throttle (or even half for that matter). Do I have a leaking needle valve?? or stuck floats or something?? Have not done carb. job yet, but will probably if I don't figure something else first.

I am about stumped. Like originally posted, ran fine first time out then 3 days later, NOTHING.

Check to be sure your timer base is advancing freely with the throttle linkage.
Do a spark test.
Fouled carbs

And to add to Walkers post, check and make sure all the throttle plates are opening/closing at the same time. Maybe be a link problem....but fouled carbs seem to stick out.

Timer base is moving with linkage. As for spark test it looks O.K. decent blueish not quite white spark at about 1/2" gap.

I guess this means get the carb kits ordered??

Thanks for the replies.
