Hello. . . .I recently boughtt a 1992 Evinrude E90TLEND 90HP from a guy doing an UPGRADE TO A 200hp. He unfortunatly for me was able to re-use the control box (throttle/shift), cables, and wires, so I am in need of knowing exactly what I need to purchase for it. It does have power tilt, and I would imagine the control box should have the ignition as well. I also need the proper wireing from motor to control box, and battery. Is the battery lead part of the main wireing lead, or is it a seperate lead down from the motor? I also would like some info on how to disconnect the oil injector so I can pre-mix the gas at 50/1 rather then risk a melt down. . . . I really apreciate any assistance / info I can get. . . . Thanks Dave

E-bay would be the way to go for the controls. You will need the:

Control box(PTT capable), which usually comes with the wiring harness and ignition switch/choke.
Throttle and shift cables(You will need to determine the length)
A lead from the battery to the motor(Separate).

The link to one on E-bay is close to what you will need, only it does not have PTT capability. Keep looking in this section and eventually you will run across one that does fit the bill.

E-bay controls

VRO removal (By Joe Reeves)

Any OMC / BRP control with the red cannon plug will work.

I really apreciate all theh help. . ..

What is a BRP Control? I am familiar with johnson/evinrude/OMC, but I have not heard of BRP

Also, I was wondering. . . The shop that removed the motor prior to me buying it, set it down on the bottom fin / skag, and as a result they belt it a little to one side in the first 4" at the bottom. Is there a way to straighten it without breaking it, or should it just be left alone?

Also do the standard red bell wire harnesses have wires for tach temp acc etc. for in the dash? I had the impretion that this motor has the features of temp / oil warning system, as well as the tach, but I am not certain.

I hope I am getting this down so you cna get the gist of what I am trying to ask

Thanks again . . . .You Guys are GREAT
Dave

BRP is Bombardier Recreational Products, owners of Johnson and Evinrude.

The wiring harness includes the gray tach lead and the tan alarm system lead for overheat or lack of oil problems. There is no temp gauge or wiring included, that would be an accessory item.

Your first purchase should be a service manual.

Re: NEED HELP - 1992 Evinrude 90Hp Wiring / Controls / oil Disconnect

I am looking as we speak for a manual, but I am seeing 90 & 60 degree motors ?? Not sure what that means, and cross V as welll as other variations it seems with this motor. which motor do I have exactly?
The Model # is E90TLEND and serial is G031533768

Engine Block # is 189985 18FR 1

Perhaps someone could tell me the exact type and classification I have, so I am certain too get the right manual.

Also what would be best to get as far as thuroughness? Factory service manual or the seloc? Ebay is where I am looking as there are plenty, and the prices are good :)

Thanks again for all the assistance !!!!

Your motor is a 90 degree. That is the relationship of the cylinder banks and the crankshaft.A 60 degree is much narrower. Also service manual is #580145,but no longer available from BRP.Try Kenncook.com,and ebay.Aftermarket manuals try hard, but don't make the grade,so find a factory one.

DHP

Re: NEED HELP - 1992 Evinrude 90Hp Wiring / Controls / oil Disconnect

Hey guys thanks again for all the info . . .

rickdb1boat:
The skag is bent at least a 1/4"

I see there are 90 loop and 90 cross engines, which is mine ?? Still looking for a deal on a manual, but I did find my controls today over in Idaho.
Nice condition - Keyed Control box w/ PTT + harness + batt leads + Cables for shift & throttle all for $140 . . . . Did I get a deal ?

The guy tried to talk me into a oil tank, and talk me out of disconnecting the injector and hand mixing, but I think it is safer ?

one more thing, as far as the alarms on this engine, heat / oil, I would imagine the oil one needs disconnected when pump is bypassed? Yes / No
Is the heat alarm in the engine, or at the control box, as the control box i got does not have an alarm on it, and can I wire the leads to a gauge or other alarm if it is not in the motor?

Other then a manual, which I am in search for, is there somewhere online I can get a copy of the wiring schematic / diagram?

The guy today also suggested a water pressure gauge, how do you guys feel about those? seems like a real good thing ??

Hopeing to get the two old 40's yarded by the end of the week, and then install this badboy :)

THANKS AGAIN !!!!! Have a Great day
Dave
