I was wondering if anyone can help me with a wiring diagram for the large harness that comes from the Johnson eletric starting box. I recently purchased the motor and the previous owner didn't write down any of the wire colors and locations before he took the motor and controls off. The harness has a larger green wire that shows 12v, a larger reddish wire and brown wire, small whitish gray wire(which cranks the motor), small black wire, brown wire and gray wire. It also has a molex plug that has a blue and green wire that are connected and a small red wire that is not connected, but pigtails off the plug. If anyone has info on how to hook the correct wires to a key switch, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Gossamer, You have the electric starting box correct? If so, you need to run wires to your dashboard for power, ground, distributor (Ignition killer for magneto models), solenoid and electric choke. All of these are thin (14-16 Ga) wires. The other wires in the electric starting box are for the voltage regulator, and can be run forward to connect an ammeter, but it is not necessary to do so. If you have battery ignition, voltage will be supplied to the distributor (via a resistor wire).

Gossamer, You need an electric shoke switch and an outboard "magneto" type ignition switch with (ground, start, magneto, power, acc) 5 terminals. When you set the ignition key to "run", it should unground the distributor wire, and supply power to the electric choke switch via the Acc terminal. Whne the ignition switch is in start, power should be supplied to the start terminal.
