Tahnks Joe Reeves for your answer to my last post with regards to my timing question.

I am about to time the spark advance on my 90 hp Johnson mod # j90tleor....the manual says to use the proper test wheel...what is that?....next question can I run the engine in the water on a trailer at wot and set max spark advance?

Would it be better to have a second person to run the boat at wot while I ck and set timing while boat is moving in water?

Thank You

It would make good sense to have someone else at the controls to shut things down should some unforseen emergency arise (Like tie-down straps fail and the boat is launched onto the tow vehicle. At wide open throttle you don't want to be entangled in anything for even an instant. At least fasten the kill switch lanyard to yourself so you can give it a yank if necessary.

dont run a standard prop at WOT on the trailer. bad things can and usually do happen. if you cant access a test wheel check it on the lake with a competent helmsman, preferably one not on your life insurance policy :) .
