Re: JOHNSON JHL 19H PROBLEM'S

Hello Steve and welcome to iboats forums!

The water in the cylinders can come from either of two places. One place is from a blown head gasket and the other could be from the exhaust cover gasket on the port side of the engine. Sometimes a compression test might tell you if it's the head gasket so that would be a first step. If the cylinder comprssion is low, pull the head and replace the head gasket.

The high and low speed needles need to be set with the engine running. Start with the high speed (lower) needle turned out about 1/2 turn from a GENTLY seated position and the low speed (upper) needle about 3/4 turn out. Set the high speed needle first. Run the engine at WOT and adjust the high speed needle for best rpm. Then throttle down to idle and set the low speed needle for best idle being careful not to adjust the needle for to lean a mix.

You would also help yourself out a lot if you would get a service manual for the engine. It would help you in trouble shooting with any problems you may encounter.

If you have anymore questions, don't hesitate to post. If you do, please use small case letters like I'm using. Upper case makes it sound like your shouting.

Thanks for posting.
