    Default Parts for Ted Williams

    I was wondering if anyone new where I could get a carb kit for a Ted Williams 4 hp Serial # - 103835 Model # 217 - 58580. I am located in Northern Ontario Canada so online would probably be my best bet. Thanks

    Ted Williams was a line of OBs made by different manufacturers for Sears to distribute. Sears will stock parts for a lot of their stuff. Obviously the first stop is at Sears. If that fails, maybe you can determine the manufacturer, and ask them for parts. Eska/Tecumseh was a manufacturer of them. I have also heard that Merc and Evinrude made them as well, but have no confirmation.

    Any idea of the year it was made?

    Sears is OK for part numbers and exploded views, but they'll doo ya like a high school cheer leader at a sand pit frat party on shipping. They get OEM Tecumseh parts from Certified Parts Corporation. Get a load of this;

    You have to call CPC, the website is useless. They'll ask your model number, and they can hook you up. The 217 in your model number means it's a Tecumseh engine with an Eska leg. There are other places to get parts - eskaman2008 on Ebay,

    Two areas to be careful of - carb and cooling. Don't just be fooled into thinkin the motor is air cooled because it as fins all over the top end - The bottom end of that motor needs water cooling, and without a good pump, it's a dead man. When you replace the impeller, replace the seal below it in the top of the lower unit,too. When you rebuild the carb, be sure the red rubber fuel pump element slot ends are at 2 and 8 o'clock, and that the open end of the float needle retainer clip's open end is pointed at the choke. Good luck with that sucker, and check back with us as you go. We would not turn up our noses at the ocassional pic, either. Might want to check out these guys, too;
