Even before those items, you need a parts book. Once you have the part numbers, go to www.marineengine.com to see if they are available.
Top main bearing is part number 377528
piston ring set is 378416 (3 rings)
There never was a gasket set. You have to order individual gaskets.
Another alternative would be to find a decent power head and save yourself all the work and hunting down parts. Just swap it out. May be cheaper too. Keep an eye on ebay or ask around and you should be able to find one. Also, I believe the block is the same as one used on mid 50's (55-56?) Evinrude 15's.
Just noticed that there's a 15 Evinrude (1956) powerhead on eaby for $49 with $25 shipping. I believe that is the same as yours but I'd ask the question here and with the seller to be sure if you're interested. fyi good luck!
I actually need the connecting rod bearings, not crankshaft, sorry.
I was looking through part numbers and I dont see a Gale anywhere, that is who made Sea king in 1962. Looks like you referenced Johnson/Evinrude parts....are they the same or something?
If so, how can I be sure they are the right part? The search engine does not recognize my model number either. Where did you find the 3 ring piston set? Thanks for your help.
Id have to be sure that the block is truely the same from 1955-1962. I am very new at all this and am trying my best to not waste any money or order wrong parts. Should I have left piston rings on the cyclinder? The guy helping me told me to replace them. I listened, took em off and they broke.
There is a Outboard sea king on craigslist about 2 hours away. Looks identical to what I got, hes asking 80. Ive called him to ask for a model number so I can track the year down. Havent got a call back yet.
Here's a couple of places to find out if the 15 Gale and older 15 Evinrude are the same (I'd put money on it they are). Google 'Duckworks' and Max Wawrzyniak (odd job motors) and ask them or start a new post on iboats with the question and you'll find out for sure. I think that's your best bet. The only difference I can discern is the rubber cushions for the metal cowling on the old Evinrude. Good luck!
Ahem....I think I said get a parts book. That will tell you what parts are the same and what are different. Send me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll help you with a book. I'll need the model number because there was more than one 15hp that year.
The connecting rod rollers set is 378151 (for one rod), and the rollers retainer cage set is 203244 (for one rod).
Are those rollers rusted because water got in through the lower crankshaft seal?? Seal is 303804.
If the Gale part number is the same as the J/E part number, the part is the same. Gale Products was the division of OMC that made motors for others, such as Wards. Johnson and Evinrude were other divisions. And Cushman Scooters and Lawn Boy mowers and Pioneer chainsaws, to name a few.
Thanks for the references! Ill go take a look over there for whatever information I can find.
PM sent, thanks for your help F_R...I will be replacing crankshaft seal as well. Thanks for the part number. The motor was sank twice, water found its way in somehow.
Heres an update...
Here is the internal motor after Ive spend some time freeing it up.

When this motor was given to me the airbox was empty, should there be some kind of filter in here? If so, will marineengine.com have it?

Nothing goes in the air box. It is a silencer, not an air filter. There isn't much dust on a lake, so no air filter is needed.
e-mail sent.
It was sank twice? WOW! It sounds like the thumb screws need to be a little bit tighter on the transome.![]()

Or the loose nut between the throttle and the boat should have been replaced much earlier.

Hey, it's a Gale. One of the most abused motors on the planet and still one of the best. Gales are like old Ramblers....take a lickin' and keep on tickin'![]()

Don't break them. Seriously, put them in the cylinder bore first and check the end gaps. Receiving the wrong parts (oversize rings) is rare but not unheard of. I'm looking for the gap specs, but haven't found it yet.
EDIT: Found it. .007"-.017"
And arent the gaps suppossed to be staggered?

Is there a timing adjustment for these old outboards? If so how is it done?

Thanks for the reply zephyr, that's good to hear.
Heres my new dilemma. The section of the crankshaft, where the connection rods bearings attach needs to be turned down and micro polished. They are a little pitted and I know the amount of material needed to be removed will exceed tolerance. Not sure of my options or if the extra play will really matter. Any suggestions? I am a welder so adding material is a possibility, I've just never done it.
