Hi all, new sea king owner

Hi everyone,
I bought an older aluminum boat that came with a Ward's Sea King 15hp. Searching on here I've figured out it is a 1982. It runs for a bit, but doesn't seem to want to keep running. So, in addition to a new impeller, I'm also going to be rebuilding the fuel pump. Found all the parts for those jobs, so that'll be easy.

The return spring for the starter rope seems to be a bit sticky. Any tips on getting that to free up? I'm thinking some cleaning and new grease would be good. Also, I haven't looked at the lower unit lube yet so that'll have to be taken care of. Hopefully it's clean, but if it needs seals that not too terribly hard either.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi and thanks for the info I've found already!

does that motor have a needle ajustment or two?

Anyway...yes it has a couple adjustment screws. Spent a few minutes this evening playing with it. I got the starter gear freed up, but I noticed a hairline crack developing in there. Hopefully I can find a replacement!

I also checked the lower unit gear oil. While it needs changing it doesn't seem to have any water in there, so that's one less thing to worry about. I should have carb, fuel and impeller parts this week, and maybe next weekend we'll take her out for the first time. The boys are about to go crazy over the wait.

I forgot to mention this earlier: the little plastic block in the handle that holds the throttle shaft is broken. Any guess where I might find a replacement?

Spent the day today putting in all the parts needed to make her run right. As suspected the fuel pump diaphragm was hard as can be. I also pulled the carb to check the float bowl, and was pleasantly surprised at how clean it was!
Of course, the PO must have cobbled together a few fittings he had laying around, because the fuel line connector at the front of the engine leaks like crazy. I THINK it's got a Force engine side fitting and Suzuki hose fitting...argh.

For now I just have a hose nipple and the the hose is clamped straight onto that. Once she had fuel though she fired right up and purrs great. I let her sit at just above idle for 10 minutes and she never even hiccuped.

Now, as for the starter...the plastic bushing inside the top mounting bracket is cracked and binding up. So, until I can find a replacement (any ideas for this as well?) I'll be using the backup starter on top.

Well, discount marine knew exactly exactly what I needed, and they have the part for the starter. Have to buy the entire spool/axle for the starter, just shy of $50. Could be worse I guess.

As for the tiller handle thrust block, that's NLA, so I'm gonna find some oak or maple and make a new one.
