Help! Info needed on Sea King 9.9hp Boat Motor

Help...I have a Sea King 9.9hp boat motor made by Mongomery Ward that I need to find some info on. The MODEL # is VWB 52299 and the SERIAL # is 08X 20823.
Can someone tell me the YEAR on this motor and the aprx. VALUE? It's clean and in great working condition.
Also, is it correct that it was made by Johnson?

That's a 1980 model, built by Chrysler. It has no relationship with OMC, Evinrude, or Johnson.

They were nice, lightweight 9.9 outboards, but don't have nearly the same value as a Johnson or Evinrude 9.9. When I see them for sale in the Minnesota twin cities area, they tend to sell for about half what the Johhnyrude 9.9s sell for. Meaning from about $250-300, no matter how nice a condition they are in.

Anglers buy these small outboards and they have no patience for hunting down parts when something goes wrong, so they don't like Chryslers. That keeps the price down.

It's just the facts of life with small outboards. Johnson and Evinrudes in the smaller sizes get the top prices. Everything else takes second place. In many areas, it's hard to find a buyer at all, since there are so many Johnnyrudes around at any given time.
