1967 Ted Williams (McCullough) 9 hp Seals & impellers
Got it to run! This old motor has been flooded with water, left in an old boat and covered with leaves and I know it has not been run in around 10 years if not longer. I put a new product "Blaster" in the cylinders, turned it over a few times, put in new condensers, cleaned and set the points, put the spark plugs back in, squirted some starting fluid down the carb throat and it fired right up! Now I'm ready to make it run....
I dropped the lower unit to check impeller(s)... it has a bailer so there are 2 identical impellers. From laingsoutboards.com website it appears that the number of the impellers is 75250. Anyone know of a cross reference to see if this crosses to a Sierra or RedLine number?
The big shock was when I dropped the lower unit an o'ring and seal dropped out of the bottom of the power head. Anyone know where to start or how to come up with a replacement oil seal? I suppose that a regular neoprene o'ring can be the replacement o'ring.... will have to check that one out. I'm at a loss of what to do about the crankshaft oil seal... and I'm sure it won't run right without it. The boot below the seal & o'ring appears to be in serviceable condition. Next is to find a carb kit for it... but then, maybe I can get around that since the filter screen cleaned up just fine.
