help! need pinout for fuel pump relay 4.3 cobra, fuel problems!! HELP!

I recently replaced my fuel pump, while doing so I also took apart the fuel pump harness and replaced several contacts and wires. when I put everything back together my fuel pump overheated and caught on fire!! the mfg is sending a replacement, they said it sounds like a faulty pump. however, I want to make sure I had the pinouts correct on the relay.

my engine is a '92 4.3 with 2 barrel holley.

also, my original prob was the engine spartically cuts off while planing sometimes. I haven't had a volt meter with me when this happens to find out of the pump actually was shorting out. however, I did check both diodes while the wire harness was apart and they both checked fine. When the engine cut off, it gradually died as if the gas had shut off. The iginition was still firing. whe it does this, the motor wouldn't crank back up for about 20 min's, then it would fire back up perfectly.

I checked/replaced fuel filter, fuel lines, drained the fuel tank, anti syphon valve, and fuel pick-up screen. everything was fine and worked perfect.

my alternator is keeping the battery charged fine, so I suspect it is getting proper power to the pump at all times. the red/white wire does red 12v on the pump

any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

thanks, I have a clymer manual but it does not give much for wiring specifics, just a general schematic. I'll give this a shot!

I looked through the manual you suggested, it did not give a detailed electrical diagram, just another generic. I'm needing the exact pinout/pin placement for the fuel pump relay.

I saw one in a thread here, was looking it up for a friend, it was either VP or VP/OMC but I think it is the same. I will look for it again as soon as I can.

I thought there was a diagram with it, but this is what I pulled out of the iboats thread and gave to the buddy, take it for what it is worth to you.....

Red= 12v all the time
Yellow with Red Stripe=fuel pump + side
Black= Fuel Pump - side
Orange= Don't know
Green = Don't know

Any idea whats controlling the orange and green wire?"

with this answer...:
"The orange wire comes from the start relay, and the green wire comes from the alternator. Both go thru diodes."

This is Volvo Penta stuff, but I think your year of OMC Cobra is from the joint venture years.
