I have a 1975 Glastron v-186 with a Johnson 135hp on it. I would like to mount a 9.8 mercury on it as a kicker because of fishing on motor restricted lakes, but I have no room on the transom. I was thinking of making a mount attaching it to the boarding ladder but I don't know if that's advisable. The kicker motor only weighs 75lbs. Any other ideas besides removing the main engine each time?
A 75lbs motor sounds a bit heavy for the ladder mount, i would try mounting a 50lbs or smaller engine on there myself if it felt sturdy enough, but might still work. make a mount and hang it on there and then feel and see if it feels sturdy and solid (maybe reenforcing the ladder a little) it might just work
the weight of the motor is one thing. the forces from the prop is another thing. the ladder is meant for people coming in and out of the boat. engine mounts are made sturdy for mounting and supporting engines.
