I have a merc 170 hp engine in my 1988 wellcraft calssic 192. Its the larger of the 4 cylinder engines. Anyone have knowledge on how this engine will preform in compairison to the smaller 4 cylinders? I all most bought a smaller 4.
Im hoping it has plenty of power for tubing, wakboarding, and handle lake erie. I had a 17 ft with a 115 merc ob before and it flew Fast and plained quickly.
Not sure what you are asking, are you looking for a replacement motor for your Wellcraft, or looking at a different boat with a 140 hp engine in it.
Basically, the 170 and 165 4 cylinder engines are the same thing, a 3.7L Mercruiser engine. The 140 is a 3.0L GM engine.
The 3.0L engine would be way under powered in your 192 Wellcraft.

You'd probably have the best idea of how your boat performs, since presumably you've driven it before. Don't know how heavy your Wellcraft is, but my 19' Glastron is able to pull my 190# butt up on a 66" slalom ski (with some difficulty...). Tops out at close to 50mph.
