I have a 2 stroke Mariner 4M. Serial no. 6E0 6 08006. Made in Japan.
I'm guessing it's about 20 yrs old, but can anyone tell me the exact year? I've looked on www.marinshopen.se/index.htm but it doesn't seem to be listed. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Your problem is as simple as the number you are giving the 6EO is the model designation of th 4HP Japanese built Mariners but they all had 6 digits serial numbers starting with 3EO-001011 in 1980 and running through 6EO-335370 starting number in 1990, in 1991 the starting number was A874067 so you have a problem with you serial number.
So if my 4 starts with 6EO it's pre '91? That would make the folks i bought it from um, less then truthful! They said they bought in '96 or '97, new. Hmmmm.

After prompting by Laddies, I realise I've posted the wrong serial no.
It should've read: 6E0 S 080066.
According to the service manager at E.P. Barrus Ltd of Oxfordshire, U.K. (main importer of Mariner in the U.K.) the year is 1981 and the OEM part number of the workshop manual for this model is 90-96963.
Thanks Laddies for your help.
