Timing on a 1964 Mercury Merc 850

Hoping someone can help me out here. I need to check the timing on my 1964 merc850. I have a Clymer manual but it only lists the timing specs for the 850 with Thunderbolt ignition, which I'm pretty sure I don't have. I don't have a Mercury service manual yet. I was hoping someone on here could give me some instructions or point me in the direction of a general step by step.

I also keep hearing about doing a "lync and sync" on this forum but not sure where that post is. Anyone have a link?
