    Default Throttle problems

    Hello,

so i have a 1982-1987 (between i think) 65 hp outboard merc power boat. When i start driving it feels as tho im not getting enough power even when i have the throttle open all the way. The boat planes with the front end up real high. maybe the cable is too long or something. I am not very knowledable with boats. any suggestions?

Anything is possible, but for the bow (front) of the boat to be high in the air is not the correct attitude for most boats and the correct attitude depends on a lot of things.

But a place to start is the position of the engine with respect to the transom. If you took a carpenters square and laid one leg parallel to the average run of the boat front to rear, left to right or vise versa for you measuring, taking the vertical part of the square and aligning it with the position of the engine from top to prop, measuring the housing centerline vertically, where is the engine?

If the bottom is out behind the square with the top even with the square it could cause a bow high condition. Either manually using the tilt pin running across the back of the engine clamps to allow the lower part of the engine to get closer to the boat. The closer it is, the lower the bow is. If you have power trim, which I doubt, do it with your trim system.

Get us some feedback on what I said and we will go from there.

If you are new to boating or have a new boat, a knowledgeable friend could show you how to operate your boat and save you a lot of grief, maybe some money, and maybe your life.
