Default new ignition switch for old mercury

I have a mercury 40 hp. (model = 400) outboard. The origonal igniton switch was housed inside a mercontrol with a push button electric choke on top. I was having trouble locating a switch that would fit inside the mercontrol so I bought one that i could mount in the dash.My problem is the wiring. I posted for help before and received wire diagrams. I have connected the wires accordingly, but I only here a click sound from the solonoid. Nothing else happens. Does anyone have any ideas.thanks,Wayne
