hi there i have a 65hp mercury and it isnt pumping water and after pulling apart the water pump and looking at some exploded views of the same outboard online i realised that there were 2 gaskets missing so the way that it is in the picture is: gasket then the wearplate (also is that the metal plate gasket??)and then another gasket so is it ok to put liquid gasket and then the wearplate and then some more liquid gasket
I wouldn't use liquid gasket any where. Get the right gasket. It doesn't take much to plug a water system and liquid sealer will do it for sure. I would also doubt that the mating parts are machined to good enogh tolerances that liquid gasket would seal it by itself. I have only ever seen and used one type of liquid gasket that I would use on anything, it's red and made by caterpillar. But, it's way more expensive than those small gaskets that you will need.
hi thanks for the reply i have loctite liquid gasket which is ok but what you said about the surfaces not beeing that good for mating but i will be putting the liquid gasket on and then tightening the housing down on it and leave it to set overnight but thats just me and im not an expertdo you think it would be better to make gaskets out of gasket paper that i have because i cant find those gaskets anywhere and it would take a while to get to me as i live in the outer hebrides in scotland so do you think that will be ok

Do you want advise, or do you want some other newby to verify your dangerous plan?
If you can't get the gaskets, your best second (poor) choice is to make them out of gasket paper.
Do not use liquid gasket makers in this system except where it is specified, and then only the type specified. If a blob escapes, and gets into one of the small internal ports in the engine, you can see some unusual, and expensive symptoms.
