Mercury cuts of ignition?

Hello, im in desperate need of some help. I just bought an old army motor (1980 merc) with 45 hp that have been longtime-conserved, so it only have about 10 hours runtime totally so far. The problem is when it reaches high rpm:s it cuts the ignition (i think so, but it could also be a petrol problem) It sounds like the motor has been fitted with some type of rpm-regulator?? It runs smoothly on all 4 cyl when the rpm is low or medium. I have checked the fuel pump. I was ok. The motor was running perfectly until some days ago. What to do?

Thanks for answering, I tested the ignition and it disappears when it reaches 3/4 of full throttle. The pre-ignition fails at higher rpm:s. I guess that i have to try to take away the wheel (dont know the eng. term) and se if anything i loose? Or...?

I cant see anything that looks broken or torn under the fly wheel. What should i do next? Is there someway i cant test the stator or any other parts of the ignition? How do i test the high speed winding?

You need to get a repair manuel for that motor and follow the steps for troubleshooting. I can tell you this: you will need a DVA meter to read what the output is. You can do a Ohms test with a normal volt meter, but not be able to read the voltage output test without the DVA
