Rebuilding carbs. What type of gasket sealant should I use between gasket and engine block? It appears none was used whenever this was done previously. Could this be one reason it will not run wide open?
No gasket sealer is required or necessary. Lack thereof previously shouldn't have had any effect on WOT operation unless there was a torn gasket or old residue left unscraped to where it caused a massive vacuum leak. But you would have had other problems such as poor idling, if this were the case.
If you're experiencing fuel delivery problems at WOT, and the carb work doesn't fix, you might look to the fuel pump, primer bulb, or problems with tank venting/fuel lines. This ethanol-blended fuel we have nowadays is chewing up fuel systems left and right.
Thanks. Will be replacing all fuel lines and fittings also, along with redoing the fuel pump. The only other symptom was it became very difficult to get started, then would idle fine but would never get to wot. Ive had it for a couple of years and progressivly gotten worse. Finally decided to redo carbs. Thanks for the help.
