    Default Exhaust Manifold Problems(mercruiser 120)

I took the exhaust manifold off to replace the gasket(leaking) and found out that the back two studs were broke off in the head! This is where the gasket blew out. Is there anything I can do or should I just put it back together as is?

You can drill them out. or if you find great welder with mig welder and weld nut on broke studs and screw out. Big fan to blow gas fumes out of boat.
Help somebody every day, if you can.

You really do need to repair the fasteners, or that new gasket will probably blow out again in short order.

How long are the broken bolts... are they flush w/the head or is there some length to them.Vise grip approach (have length):Soak with some rust/bolt looser solution... I use PB "Blaster" best stuff I have ever found for working on 21 YR old Ford Truck engine bolts!!!!!!! Made in Cleveland, OH... my hometown.. call 800.858.6605 for dealer or supplier. ... And try to remove them this way.Drilling (while on boat):Buy good drill bit & extractor... still need to soak w/ penetrating oil of some kind... drill out & try to extract. I do not know how much room you have so this might not be possible. It might just be easier to pull head & do it on the work bench.Good Luck... & if you pull the head, do yourself a favor & rework it while it is out. But I have also just thrown a new gasket on some before & have just been fine.fone_man
