72 Merc 65 hp starting problem

I just went out to check out my motor before I take it out tomorrow and guess what. It just clicks. I switched batteries and put my I/O battery (new battery) on it and it does the same thing. I has a similar problem like this before but it was due the the starter mechanism being stuck on the flywheel. After oiling the starter it all worked great 2 weeks ago.

Can anyone give me some guidance on where to start to get this thunderbolt running again? All advise is greatly appreciated.

we have a 1964 model that did the same, just clicking when key turned, was the solenoid in our case,
but l'd clean all the battery terminals/posts and all the connections/earths on the motor with emery paper as well
