65 HP Mercury Thunderbolt ignition trouble

I was workin on my motor when I accidentally grounded out the coil. The motor died and would not restart. I changed the switch box and that didn't fix the problem. I am guessing that the coil is bad any help in troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.

Remove the black with yellow stripe wire from the switchbox and isolate it.This will remove the entire kill circuit (ignition ,lanyard, mercury switches,and assoc wire harness). Spray a couple shots of mixed gas directly into the carbs, and try it.Grounding out the coil will not harm the switchbox. However, allowing the coil to float,or removing the plug wire,and isolating it from ground will. Also,while it is disconnected, check that black with yellow stripe wire for any voltage present between it and ground ,with ignition switch on and off. Any voltage can damage the switchbox.Now with the black/yellow wire disconnected, you wont be able to shut down the engine,unless you choke it, or it runs out of fuel (the latter is not a good thing to do to a 2 cycle).But at least you have eliminated the kill circuit and fuel as culprits.Get back if you still have no spark after that, it may be the trigger or stator.
