    Default 40hp mercury tach

    I recently got a boat with a 1996 40hp mercury engine. It runs well, however the tach does not work. I made sure all the connections were tight on the back of the tach.

    I am wondering if it is possible to test if there is any power or signal coming through the wires that go into the tach? Where could I get a wiring diagram.

    And lastly, are all boat tachs the same or are there different ones for different engines?

    Did you ever figure it out? I am having the same issue with mine.
