2006 Mercury 50hp hard starting problems after several fishing stops
I have a 2006 50 hp merc. that is hard to start after fishing for 15 to 30 minutes and it doesn't happen all the time (no pattern). It starts great at the ramp and runs great up until I stop and fish for a while. I have found it hard to start and seems to be flooded with all the gas in the water after several trys to start. I have changed gas, and where im purchasing the gas from, spark plugs and the last thing I have done is changed the primer bulb. This has been going on for a couple of months and has happened four time now. I was recently on a two day fishing trip to Santee where i made over 50 stop and starts and it happened one time approx. the 35 stop and never happened again on the trip. I plan on running some quickkleen through the fuel system to try and clean the carburators. I also purchased a spark tester to make sure I have fire when it happens the next time. I have also taken the plugs out when this happens and cleaned them at that time and they where wet with gas. Any ideas? The boat is used all year long.
Re: 2006 Mercury 50hp hard starting problems after several fishing stops
Are you using the the fast idle lever during moderately warm starts. This is especially important if you suspect flooding. It may be time for carb rebuilding as well as one or more of the inlet needle and seats may be worn and therefore not shutting off fuel flow.

I'm now using the fast idle lever when the problem occurs but i have never used it in the past because the motor started so well after warming up. I bought the motor new and the carbs have never been rebuilt.
