Default 2005 Mercury 9.9 Four Stroke

The primer pump bulb on my motor is cracked. Would this keep the engine from starting? Is there a way to start the engine without using it? Also, the previous owner used regular gas with ethenol. Would this have caused a problem? Owner's manual says ok up to 10% ethenol.

the primer bulb gets fuel to the engine....so yes it could keep the engine from starting.

You can use 10% ethanol but I prefer to use the higher grade non-ethanol versions (check the gas specs)....there are many threads on the ethanol topic.
