Default 2005 Mercury 60Hp 2 Stroke Gas Leak

Lowe 165S and a Mercury 60Hp two stroke. I got the boat and motor brand new the spring of 2005 and never has an issue. I don't use it that often. I think I've had it in the water two dozen times due my schedule but, it's nice to have a fishing boat when you want one, most of the time it sits in the back yard. We mostly use the electric trolling motor so I don't think this motor has 10 hours on it and I know for a fact I haven't ever burned more the 10 gallons of gas though it. Every winter (except last winter) I drain the tank for storage.

First time in the water this year and I'm having a fuel leak issue. Fuel tank wasn't emptied prior to storing last year because I was out on disability and couldn't get to it so I did it two weeks ago and put in a fresh fill of 10 gallons prior to the outing on Saturday. We got to the lake and I pumped the ball. It seemed sort of spongy and never got totally hard like it has in the past. Then I noticed that fuel was coming out from the cover. I popped it off and took a look and I can't tell where it's coming from but it is leaking.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Found the problem. Issue was with one of the rubber gas lines. It was split right at the joint going into another plastic joint. As many times as I've used this motor, I'm really disappointed in the quality of this hose! I thought Mercury made better quality motors. I guess not. Maybe next time I'll go with a different brand of motor.

    Thanks!
Because you have the same motor and a different problem, does not make it right to hijack someone elses thread. It only adds confusion as to who the respondents are responding too.

You have a 6 year old boat with 10 hours on it. Rubber parts degrade. Fuel lines that sit in the sun get hard and subject to cracking. Hardly a wallet crusher and hardly worth trading the motor for another brand that may exhibit the same issue. New fuel lines are available most anywhere including WalMart.
