2003 Mercury 8hp lower unit removal - shift shaft ?????

Do you have to disconnect the shift under the power head to remove the lower unit from a 2003 Mercury 8hp outboard - if so how the heck do you get in there?

on the newer type i think there was video on Youtube how to do it there is some kind of acces plate where you have to back the screw off to get the shaft to seperate hope this helps a little it should be an inch or two under the cowel. I,m not firmiliar with newer modles On this 8 HP i kida doubt they would have this setup. if you can,t get it off go to you tube and type in lower unit removal and watch a few videos there
