Default 1999 Merc Optimax 200 Bluewater Series

Looking at a 1999 Lund 2025 with a 200HP Merc Opti with only 50 hrs. What do I need to know about this engine, any major quality or problem areas in this year and model? Appreciate some Merc wisdom......

What are these engines like for power and fuel consumption?

    Thanks

    Zappa

Looks like nobody knows. This response will bump it back to the top where it has a better chance of being seen and getting a response.

Take it to a dealer and have him check the serial # for repair work and updates etc. and have them run the diagnostics in the motors computer to check for problems and hours etc. Might cost you a couple of bucks but it may be worth the money. The 1998-99 had several problems which fixes was issued for them.. As for fuel and power they are good but the later models 05 and up are a lot better....

I have the 2.5 150 version of that motor. So far it's been great.

I would stay away from that optimax that point in time they had alot of problems. It was a hit or miss some were good others were real bad. There's even had a class action law sute for new power head replacements for 1999 to 2002. My friend has one one had nothing but problems. Jest my 2 cents
