1998 15 mercury water pump
Doing a water pump on a 15 mercury...Question..How do you seperate the shift shaft to remove the lower unit?

If your looking at the carb, on the right side of the motor, under the carb you will see a shift cam that holds the shift shaft. On the front of that cam is a tab. Take a flathead screwdriver and lift up on that tab, and remove the lower unit.
