Default 1997 mercury 175 efi slipping

I was on the lske today pulling a tub when all the sudden the motor just reved up and the boat stop going. After i could go foward and backwards but couldnt give it much gas or something would slip and the motor would just rev up. Do you think this is the prop or somthing in lower unit.

Sounds like a spun hub, take the prop off and look on back side of prop should be a plastic hub, pull it out and inspect for damages.

it has a metal sleave but it is for sure the problem burnt rubber comming all out of it. Does anyone know if it can be repaired at home or do you have to take it to someone.
