    Default 1997 Mercury 125 HP

    Hello all,

I'm failry new to boating and new to the board....lots of info:

my question: i just replaced an 87 Evinrude 90 hp on my 16.5 ' Cadorette bowrider with a 97 Mercury 125 Hp engine. It came with a 23pitch prop. My old engine would hit 40 mph, i figured with the 125 hp i would do a bit better than that. I had it WOT 4700 RPMs and 41 MPH on GPS. I'm looking at a 19Pitch prop to increase my RPM to about 5100 but dont want to loose too much speed. Shouldn't the boat go faster than what it is doing? Any and all opinions/advice are welcome.

    Thanks in advance!
