    Default 1997 60HP Mercury engine cover refurb'

    Looks like it has had a flat black coat followed by clear coat. It is original. Can anyone recommend a quality clear coat.

    I have sanded it down and filled the dings. Applied primer and repainted with Merc Phantom Black. I have done several mercs this way. Thought I would try something different if I could get some input.

    Clear coats peel unless you do a perfect job.... shoot it in single stage enamel....Ditzler makes the black for Mercury that is an expoxy two part...Rattle can product won't hold up..........
