1985 Mercury 115 Lower end gear oil.

Hi I have just drained my lower unit oil. The colour of the fluid that came out is Pink... Now I have seen lots of gear oil with water in it and it is always milky. But not pink,is it possable that there was some type of additive in the oil that caused it to go pink? I am the new owner of this motor so I don't know all the history on it. It has been in storage for about 3 years.

If it came out pink the PO may have had Redline gear oil installed. Take a small sample and let it set. If it clears up with no seperation with water at bottom of sample it just areated. The cheap 80/90w will areate and turn a baby poop yellow.
