Default 1985 mercury 115 inline ignition problem

i have a 85 merc 115 inline that loses spark to 1,3,5 off idle. It has spark on all 6 untill i touch the throttle then it bogs and drops the odd cylinders. I have been troubleshooting for about a week now with still no fix. Compression is 145-150 on all cylinders, changed switchboxes, tested all coils and wires, new plugs. could it be a stator problem? tested the trigger with an ohmeter and it was within specs. any help would be great because i am about to pull my hair out and i dont have much left to begin with!

I actually had a simular problem with my 84 90hp Mariner. It ran on all 6 up to about 2200, then #1 would fire intermittenly and #3 would completely shut off. It turned out to be the stator. It was sending erratic voltage to the switchboxes.

    Hope this helps.

There are Mercury/Mariner outboards and then there are Force/Chrysler outboards. There is no such thing as a Mercury Force, yes Mercury Marine built them, but it's still the old Chysler engine with updated electronics and a better lower unit, NOTHING MORE..

As there is NO RETURN on electrical parts you GOT TO PROVE the fault before ordering any parts.

The fact that the problem occurs the moment the throttle is moved leads me to test the triggers, because the trigger wires FLEX with timing advance, you MUST flex the wires while testing because a broken yet abutted wire can work at times and fail at times.

Disconnect the throttle cable so you can move the timing /throttle lever throughout its range while testing eace trigger, also 'wiggle' each trigger wire, any failure or droop in DVA output is cause for suspicion.
