    Default 1979 115 hp Mercury outboard switch box problem

    How do you tell if the switch box on this particular model has gone completely bad?It looks like it got too hot and melted the plastic, but I don't know how to test it. Any ideas?

    If the motor is running poorly (or not at all) and your switchbox is melted - I'd guess there to start. In my experience electronics contain magic smoke. They never work the same after you let the smoke out.-W
