Cool 1971 Mercury 7.5HP Stator Question.

No spark either cylinder. I have rebuilt the points assembly including replacing the wires, resoldering at the insulator screw heads. The assembly seems to work correctly on test. Have tried two used stators, green potted variety, and two sets of coils. The coils measure good on test meter. One set was from a running motor.
Interconnection is simple enough. Green is common to both coil +. White from points is to #1, brown from points is #2. Pink is disconnected from stop button and isolated. Pigtails are in good condition and making contact.
The Seloc calls for stator test as follows. Using Rx1000 connect positive lead to Green wire and negative to Salmon wire. There should be no continuity. Reverse the connections and there should be 20-50 Ohms. The result I get is in the reverse,ie positive lead to green and negative to Salmon gives 20-50 Ohms and reverse gives no continuity.
    Meter leads are correct.
    Are the two stators defective?
Is there more I can do to test further?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you did not replace the insulater blocks thats probably the trouble. A easy test fot the stator is to remove both point wires from the coils and install a jumper wire to 1 coil have someone crank the engine over while you tap the wire to ground the coil should fire each time the wire is grounded
Poor advice is worse than no advice, your guess or inept answer can cost both money and time, so if your just talking, try thinking first.

Cool Re: 1971 Mercury 7.5HP Stator Question.

Thanks Laddies, that will will eliminate the points as a problem and, as you say,
will check the stator. The insulators are very clean and white but they could still be the problem.
    Thanks again.

Cool Re: 1971 Mercury 7.5HP Stator Question.

Have done the test as suggested and no spark. Looks like two bad stators.
    Thanks.
