Default 1967 Mercury 6hp Water Pump Help!!!

I got 2 of these motors. Both run great, both needed impellers. I replaced one (waiting on the other impeller to come). I ran it both on the flusher and in the barrel and got the same results.

It seems to run fine. If I take the "flush" screw out of the mid section it dumps water out. There is a plug on top of the block and when removed this pours water out as well. After 20 mins you can still touch the cylinders without burning your hand. But the exhaust cover is hotter than hell!!!!

Now the question, this motor does not have a tell tale but has an exhaust port on the mid section. While running exhaust comes out but does not spit water. Is this normal or is there a blockage somewhere?

Id say it has some sort of blaockage in there somewhere try taking the to plug out where water comes out of and gets fittings to go from that to garden hose and gives her a good flush out i did that with mine and it worked fine then BILL

That is what I was kind of thinking. When I pulled the "flush" screw out of the mid section it was totally blocked with salt and corrosion. I had to dig around in it a bit to clear it out and get water coming out of it.

I guess it could be the same scenario in the powerhead......

So, then it should be spitting some water out of the exhaust on the mid right???

I just was unsure as this seems to be a pretty rare motor. I can't find much info on it, not even one proud owner with a video on youtube!

I found a video on you tube of one of these motors. It does have a tell tale. I looked and found it. It is a very very small hole!!!! But no water out of it so there is definitely a blockage..........
