1964 Mercury 1000 25th anniversary 100 hp water pump change?
hi guys i'm sorry to be asking this but its troubling me, my dad has had this boat since 1988 it is a fabuglass trident II, really neat boat..it has a 64 25th anniversary merc 1000 100 hp serial # 1669248 engine on it and it runs great but has been sitting for about 8 years, it has been rebuilt and has very few hours on it, my dad says that the water pump needs changed because he hasnt started it in about a year and he knew the rubber was rotted from the last time he started itmy question is, is it hard to change this or relatively easy ? and how would i go about this ?i have a great knowledge of mechanics but no outboard boat engine knowledge i would appreciate the help ! and will post pictures of the boat/engine as my restoration progresses ! =)thank you

Welcome to the iboats forum!Pretty easy. If your engine is similar to my 1970 (I believe they are).Simply remove the lower unit. The split line is just above the sacrificial zinc trim tab. On mine it's a single upright nut in the fron, 2 upright's further back, 2 upside-downs further back, and I have to remove the trim tab. Then the LU pops off, and you're looking at the water pump. I have 2 loose parts in my LU. A rubber seal for the exhaust. Refit that into the LU. And a alignment plastic for the selector shaft. That gets refitted to the midsection.

thank you very much that instills me with alot of confidence if its that simple i thought i'd have to tear into it big timefirst im gonna check all the water channels with some wire cause a wasp may have made a nest in there and clogged it up <hopefully>
