    Default 1957 mercury mark 10

-my mother-in-law knows i like old outboards and purchased a mark 10 mercury. It was complete but when I took it apart to clean the carb and fuel system and look at the water pump and lower unit I was astounded! Either I'm an idiot or changing the water pump impeller is impossible. Is there any way for this to be done? The gear system was bizarre. What is the value of one of these in non-working condition, if any. I'm thinking that this is a "throw-away" motor. Is there any value in the parts for one of these or does everyone basically cringe at the sight of this monster?
    thanks,
    jbj
Not a certified mechanic but I have at least 2 shade trees in my yard and my wife always says I'm certifiable. So remember that when you follow my advice

    Hi,
It takes an hour or two to do with a few special Merc tools.
You will need a manual for this one too.
I would start with a simpler motor.
    This is free internet advice.

    Have Fun,

Its a job for special tools, and a knowledgeable wrench behind them..great motors, but ya gotta know those pumps..sell it on Craigslist to someone who knows those spring shift motors..

I've got $40 for any non-running Mark 10, 15, or 28 in the upper midwest...

The challenge of these motors has me intrigued for the moment...
