1950's Merc Super Silent 6 comet twin Cowl

Hello,
I am looking to repair the pull start on my vintage super silent 6 (mark 6). I was told by the local marina that I should search for a top cowl with a working pull start assembly rather than repair my current pull start. The cowl itself is in great condition, i just broke the cable and it is tangled in the pull start assembly. Any thoughts on what would be an easier route to get my motor back in the water quick would be appreciated greatly.

Also, any idea if i need a special Mercury tool to remove the pullstart assembly from the top cowl?

Repair your old one, disassemble it, re cord it and put it back together. There shouldn't be any special tool other than normal tools.
